Medical Device Evaluation & Operational Testing

Technology Evaluation and Validation, , 2026

Experience evaluating biomedical technologies across laboratory, clinical, and operationally relevant environments, with an emphasis on determining whether a system can provide useful and reliable capabilities under real-world constraints.

My work has included the evaluation of physiological monitoring systems, integrated medical devices, and portable diagnostic technologies. This involves defining performance requirements, developing test protocols, identifying appropriate reference measurements, collecting and analyzing performance data, and considering factors such as usability, portability, integration, and operational constraints.

Within human spaceflight research, I have applied these approaches to technologies intended for environments where mass, volume, crew time, training, and available medical resources may be limited. This has included work involving multi-functional medical devices and portable X-ray technologies for future exploration missions.

My approach combines quantitative performance testing with consideration of the intended use environment. The objective is not simply to determine whether a technology works, but whether it provides a meaningful capability for the people and operations it is intended to support.
